IMPROV FOR ACTORS teaches the fundamental techniques of long-form improvisation in an environment catered to practiced, trained actors. Building upon acting skills, the class covers the same key exercises and lessons as IMPROV 101. At the same time, the class emphasizes the listening, making choices, and playing so important to acting. During the last two weeks of the class, students will explore and practice using techniques of long-form improvisation in two often neglected applications of being a professional actor: auditions and extended runs - when it's new and when it's boring.
The class qualifies as a prerequisite to Improv 201.
Make up classes are NOT available.
This course also introduces the specific vocabulary of the UCB Training Center.
This course meets for 8 sessions that are each 3 hours long. At the end of the course, students will take part in a class performance at the UCB Theatre. Graduation is also contingent upon students seeing at least two improvised shows at the UCB Theater before the end of the course.
Class Size: 16 Students
