Advanced Scramble Mechanics Taught by Ari Voukydis
Scramble Mechanics means taking the Harold, stripping it down to its component parts, and rearranging them into a rhythmically complex, mashup-inspired performance piece. Scenes will overlap, improvisers will play multiple characters in multiple scenes at the same time, you will learn edits inspired by DJ Girltalk and edits inspired by Brecht.
The Scramble was originally conceived by Joe Bill for Chicago’s Annoyance Theater as “a Bat with the lights on” - meaning a sound-scaped, intricate piece of music for your eyes. You may have seen it at DCM.
What attracted me to performing and teaching the Scramble is that of all the forms I’ve done, this is the most like being inside The Matrix. - Ari
This class will perform at the theatre for 4 weeks.

Ari is one half of the comedy duo Mark & Ari, whose last show, Loft, ran at UCB NY for a year and was a Time Out New York Critic's Pick. Their comedy short "Small World" was directed by John Landis and featured on The Tonight Show. The have won an award or two for script writing. No big deal.
Over the years Ari has been lucky enough to fall in with some fantastic Harold teams, like DeCoster and Pound, and has been part of countless shows, including ASSSCAT, Let's Have a Ball and Wicked F***in' Queeyah, an annual salute to his home town of Boston that he co-created with Amy Poehler and Rob Corddry. He was the founder and co-host Hot For Teacher: The UCB Faculty Show, along with his insanely funny wife Betsy Stover.
Ari and Betsy live in Los Angeles with their intrepid sons Rex and Ajax and their good-natured but humorless terrier Walter.
