Musical Improv 101: Musical Improv 101

Students will learn to improvise songs with an accompanist using song structures, and then by creating their own structures as they go along. We will also explore the use of music and musical theater genre elements in improvised scenes. By learning to work with and create their own rhythms and patterns, students will gain skills that they can apply to all forms of Improv.

Amber Petty, Teacher
Amber Petty has been studying at UCB since 2004 and is currently on the Harold Team Penthouse Riot. During her time at UCB she's studied with Ari Voukydis, Joe Wengert, Jackie Clarke, Jason Mantzoukas and many more. In addition to working with UCB on Harold night and in various sketch shows (her favorite was Penny's White Orphans), Amber has taught at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts since 2006. Also, she loves to sing and has played every white speaking girl role in West Side Story.
