UCBComedy: Topical Sketch Videos
Being able to write short, funny, topical sketches is becoming a more and more important skill as so many outlets like Funny or Die, College Humor, The Onion News Network and various television shows produce topical sketches on a weekly (or daily) basis. For this class, please bring in one sketch that satirizes, parodies or in some way comments on or deals with a recent, topical news or cultural event.
There are no refunds for this workshop. Please check your schedule carefully before registering!
Pre-requisite: Completion of Sketch 201
Chris Kelly, Teacher
Chris Kelly is currently a staff writer for Saturday Night Live. Previously, he's been a staff writer and director for The Onion News Network, which won the 2009 Peabody Award, and earlier this year was a writer on a Comedy Central pilot created by Matt Besser.
At UCB, Chris wrote, directed, and acts in his new one-act play "OH MY GOD, I HEARD YOURE DYING!". He was also the director of Michael Hartneys one-man show, "SO I LIKE SUPERMAN", and was a writer and actor on the Maude Team STONE COLD FOX.
Chris is also a sketch teacher at UCBNY and has performed monologues at ASSSSCAT in both New York and LA. He has written and acted for the Maude Teams 27 KIDNEYS and THUNDER GULCH, directed the ridiculous 2PAC: THE MUSICAL and has written for SKETCH CRAM out at UCBLA.
He also writes an important, revelatory, and stunning blog, which can be found at www.chriskelly.tumblr.com. But you already knew that, as it is open in another tab on your browser right now.
Finally, Chris loves his mother and hates high-fives.
