Advanced Study Improv: Specialized Long Form Workshop

Each master class course offered at this level is instructor-driven. Students will study Long Form improv at an advanced level and will receive in-depth personal feedback about their own performance and progress as improvisers. Please read below for the specific focus of this course.
Gravid Water Workshop with Stephen Ruddy
In this 6 week workshop, you will practice the techniques and principles of the UCBT show Gravid Water, which has scenes with one person following a script and the other person improvising. Focus will be on grounded play, being in the moment and professional stage craft. Students will be asked to memorize scripts outside of class

The status of the course may change to "Sold Out" and back to "Request Permission" when students are being enrolled, but you do NOT need to reapply to this class if that happens. Stephen Ruddy, Teacher
Stephen Ruddy has been directing Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Jason Sudeikis, Megan Mullally, David Cross, Scott Adsit, and other comedy luminaries in UCBT’s Gravid Water since 2004, both in New York and LA. He is also the creator and a frequent performer. Stephen directs for The 52nd Street Project, NYU Graduate Acting’s Free Play series, and created the UCBT shows Chekhprov—with Scott Adsit, Becky Drysdale, and Tami Sagher—and Ruddy & White. He is a member of the curatorial committee of The Moth, the Peabody Award-winning storytelling organization. He graduated from Columbia University, and studied acting at the Atlantic Theater Company Acting School. Most importantly, he played the “Bartender in the Lakeview Lounge” on CBS’s As The World Turns for 6 years.
