This course introduces students to the long form improvisation structure known as "The Harold," developed by Del Close.

"The Harold" is a series of scenes inspired by a single suggestion that fit together into one cohesive half hour piece. Students learn how to 1) perform openings, 2) create scenes inspired by an opening 3) perform "group games," 4) second and third beats (returning to scenes later in the piece).

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at the UCB Theatre.

Students required to see at least 2 improvised shows at the UCB Theater before the end of the course.

Class Size: 16 Students

Jordan Klepper, Teacher

At the UCB, Jordan has written and performed multiple shows with the sketch group "Steve and Jordan" as well as the show, "Baggage" with Klepper and Grey and "Guilty Bystanders" with Russ Armstrong. On the improv side, he performed in "Key Party" and with the Harold teams "Still Mike," "The Pox," and "Salmon Diane."  He currently performs on the house team "The Stepfathers."

Jordan also spent a good chunk of time in Chicago where he was an original member of the long running shows "Whirled News Tonight," "The Late Night Late Show," as well as the "Beatbox." At the i.O. Theatre he played regularly with "The Armando Diaz Experience," veteran Harold team (and Del Close Award Winning Best Harold Team) "Carl and the Passions" and "Bullet Lounge." He toured the world with the Second City National Touring Company, as well as performing in the "Second City Improv All-Stars."

In addition to sketch and improv, Jordan was a correspondent on the comedic sports show "Friday Night Tailgate" on the Big Ten Network for three seasons. He can be seen on MTV's "I Just Want My Pants Back" and on "Bunk" on IFC.
