Improv 101: Improv Basics

Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation including: agreement, active listening, playing characters, playing truthfully and to the top of your intelligence and group mind.
Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.
Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.
Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.
Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.
Class Size: 16 Students
Important! Improv 101 students enrolling after February 3, 2014:
Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.
Don Fanelli, Teacher
Don has studied with Bill Esper, in the two year acting intensive at the William Esper Studio, has performed in numerous shows at the UCB theatre, and has appeared in a bunch of short plays, commercials, promos, videos, and TV shows, like 30 Rock.
Don has been an active coach of all levels of improv since 2010 and now looks forward to teaching at the UCB.
