The Play Taught by Brandon Gardner
This class will work towards creating fully improvised one-act plays, aiming to hold our improv acting up to the same standards we expect from other forms of professional theater. Rather than trying to create a plot, we will discover one as we focus on developing characters, identifying themes, and playing the Games of scenes. We will also investigate well-known plays to learn theatrical techniques and styles that will inform and expand our choices. You will be required to do some outside of class research and preparation. No absences are allowed.
This class will perform at the theatre for 4 weeks.
If you are interested in taking this class, send an email to [email protected] with the subject "Advanced Study Performance 8904 Play", by 5pm on Friday August 9th. If you have a background in drama, please give a brief description of it in the email. Also, enter your email address on the form here:
We will review the applicants and send a notice to those who have been accepted by noon Monday, August 12.
Prerequisite: Completion of Advanced Study Harold class (or Improv 501). The ability to attend all 8 classes (and four shows). Do not apply for this course if you can not attend all 8 classes and 4 shows.
