Magical Realism

Magical realism is any work of literature, painting, film, and theatre that shares a common acceptance of real, carefully defined magic in an otherwise mundane world. This workshop will focus on bringing magical elements into otherwise rational scenes. Participants will be asked to incorporate the supernatural, fables, myths, and animals, among other things, into scene work. These choices will be supported with top-of-your intelligence moves.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Improv 201

Johnna Scrabis, teacher

Johnna is an actor and writer originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a beautiful place that she loves to talk about.

She is thrilled to be one eighth of the Harold team Fluffty (Tuesdays at UCB Hells Kitchen), a host of Teacher Feature (every Wednesday at 9:15 pm at UCB East), and a founding member of the Hot Metal Arts Collective, a theater company.
