|Class Size||12 students|
|Sessions||1 session, 3 hours|
Bring in Your Queerest Sketch
Your sketch teachers here at UCB have been great! But they probably haven't been queer, and that means they didn't appreciate how dead-on your Phi Phi O'Hara dialogue was in your Drag Race parody, or how perfectly you mapped Scruff conversations to produce shopping in your Hole Foods sketch, and they've never heard of PrEP, so your Eagle Scout sketch went right over their sweet straight heads. In this workshop, you'll get feedback from people who get you.
Prerequisite: Completion of Sketch 101 or equivalent experience
This class is for LGBTQIA+ identifying writers only.
Michael Hartney, teacher
Michael Hartney is the Artistic Director of UCBTNY. He co-created the Characters Welcome house team and has spent years on Harold Night, Lloyd Night, and Maude Night. He can currently be seen doing musical improv with Rumpleteaser and he directed running shows Pop Stars Are Dumb (But We Love Them) and Shkreli! Portrait of a Pharma Bro.
Michael was one of 2016's Comedy Central Comics to Watch, did the 2018 NBC Late Night Writers Workshop, and performed in the New Faces - Characters showcase at the 2018 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal.
TV credits include The Break With Michelle Wolf, 30 Rock, and The Who Was? Show. He was also a staff writer on TV Land's late night show Throwing Shade. And crazily enough, Michael originated the roles of Stanley and Mr. Williams in Broadway's School of Rock The Musical.
