Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation including: agreement, active listening, playing characters, playing truthfully and to the top of your intelligence and group mind.

Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.

Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.

Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.

Jeremy Bent, teacher

Jeremy was born and raised in Rhode Island, and spent four years writing and performing sketches with Boston University's award-winning Slow Children At Play. Jeremy is a member of the UCB house team Bucky, and plays regularly with his team Thank You, Robot. He writes, voices and animates videos with the UCB Digital team Vex Video. He can be seen extremely late at night on local television announcing for women's flat-track roller derby. He also greatly enjoys surf music.
