The UCB Training Center teaches quality comedic scenes focus on one central comedic idea: referred to as "The Game" of the scene.

Students will be taught: 1) identifying "games," 2) heightening - finding new ways to make your scenes get funnier from start to finish, 3) realizing how patterns support the "game," 4) second beats (returning to scenes later in a piece).

This course meets for 8 sessions that are each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at the UCB Theatre.

Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at the UCB Theater before the end of the course.

Admission to 301 after the completion of this course is not guaranteed. Students will be judged on their application of concepts that they have learned in Improv 101 & 201. The Training Center will send placement notification to students within 10 days of the Improv 201 graduation performance. Students may not enroll in Improv 301 before receiving this notification.

Achilles Stamatelaky, teacher

Achilles Stamatelaky is a comedy writer and performer. He has written for Broad City (Comedy Central), MTV, TBS, Huffington Post, among others. He was the former Associate Artistic Director of UCB Theatre.

Achilles has been writing and performing improv and sketch comedy at The UCB Theatre for over decade. He improvises weekly with his group, Airwolf, which performs at UCB's East Village Theatre every Saturday at 8:30 PM. You can also see him performing regularly in ASSSSCAT 3000, UCB Theatre's long-running flagship improv show.

Previous shows include: Harold Night, Maude Night, Up Late! With Lord Voldemort!, The Kirk Cameron Repertory Players Present: A Harry Potter Musical, The Heisenberg and Friends Breaking Bad Variety Hour, As The Diamond Burns, and Night Late.

Achilles has appeared in commercials for Nickelodeon, Comcast, ESPN, Ally Bank, and others. He has also appeared in various internet videos, The Colbert Report, and Broad City. His comedy writing has been featured on Comedy Central, MTV, and Nerdist. He has performed with independent groups throughout the city and has performed at multiple comedy festivals across the country.

Achilles has been teaching at the UCB Training Center since 2010. He has directed numerous shows and groups over that time. He is also an instructor at The Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing at NYU's Tisch School of The Arts, teaching half-hour comedy writing. His dream job is starting point guard for the New York Knicks.
