Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation including: agreement, active listening, playing characters, playing truthfully and to the top of your intelligence and group mind.

Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.

Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.

Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, or

Does not meet November 21 or December 26. Meets during Hanukkah.

Lindsay Calleran Hi! I'm Lindsay Calleran! I have been performing at UCB since 2014 and studying here since 2009. I was formerly a member of the UCB Touring Company, as well as the house teams By the Book, Dr. Snake, 32k and Buchanan. I also created the show 'STRIFE: An Improvised Theatrical Experience' which you can occasionally see at the theatre.

I'm a filmmaker, and am earning an MFA in Directing from the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema. Films and videos that I've directed, written, or appeared in have been seen on CollegeHumor, FunnyOrDie, UCBComedy, Vice, ImprovEverywhere, and various film festivals around and about.
