Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation including: agreement, active listening, playing characters, playing truthfully and to the top of your intelligence and group mind.

Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.

Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.

Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.

Patrick Noth, teacher

Patrick Noth is a NYC-based performer, writer, director and musician. You may have seen him on Comedy Central, MTV, IFC, or TV Land. He's voiced animated characters on NBC and Nickelodeon. He's also worked a lot in the realm of digital media (he's done a ton of shit on the internet) Patrick is also a composer, badass music producer and a sick ass rapper who wrote this bio.

He began studying at the Upright Citizens Brigade in 2009 and is a proud performer and teacher at UCBNY. Patrick is thrilled to be performing with UCBTourCo, Fridays with Take It Personal and Saturdays with Women & Men.
