Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation including: agreement, active listening, playing characters, playing truthfully and to the top of your intelligence and group mind.

Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.

Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.

Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.


Does not meet May 26 or July 7.

Corey Brown, teacher

Corey Brown Corey is a student, performer and teacher with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Before moving to NYC he studied and performed at the Dirty South Improv Theatre with the team Mister Diplomat. He has studied under Lennon Parham, Eric Scott, Joe Wengert, Charlie Todd, Anthony King, Zach Ward and Ross White who he owes an immense amount to. Corey loves all things improv and is enthusiastic to spread that knowledge.
