Students will learn the fundamentals of long-form improvisation including: agreement, active listening, playing characters, playing truthfully and to the top of your intelligence and group mind.

Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.

Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.

Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.

Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.

Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, or

Aaron Jackson, teacher

Aaron Jackson Aaron is an actor, writer and comedian based in New York. With Josh Sharp, he's optioned a screenplay of their musical, "Fucking Identical Twins" to 20th Century Fox.

Currently at UCB, you can see Aaron on the improv teams 'Rumpleteaser' and "We WIll Turn You Gay.'

Previous UCB credits include the shows he co-wrote: 'Fucking Identical Twins: A Musical,' and 'Erik Dies, You're Stupid and We Hate You.' Other shows: What I Did For Love, Harold Night, Maude Night, 'Newsadoosies', the UCB Touring Company, and the now defunct, world-famous 3 For All competition, a show he proudly co-hosted with perennial favorites, Big Fat Fatties.
