Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.
Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.
Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.
Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.
Class Size: 16 Students
Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.

Erik Tanouye, teacher
Erik Tanouye is a half-Japanese comedian who can be seen every Saturday night performing with The Curfew at the UCB Theatre in Chelsea.
He was a creative consultant for Netflix's The Characters: Natasha Rothwell episode. He also writes for the UCB Digital Team The Council.

Erik has directed many Maude Night shows in the past and written for sketch groups (212), Pocketwatch, Neighbor Boy, Chunk, and Dinner. As an improviser, he performed at Harold night for eight years as a member of legendary teams like Grandma's Ashes, 1985, Dillinger, The Shoves, Bastian, and The Scam.
He is originally from Maryland.
He has an English degree from Dartmouth College and is currently School Manager for the UCB Training Center.
He lives in Hudson Heights.
