Understanding the fundamentals will be achieved through exercises and scene work in class, seeing improv shows at UCB Theatre and reading the UCB Comedy Improvisation Manual.
Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at UCB Theatre before the end of the course.
Course meets for 8 sessions, each 3 hours long.
Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at UCB Theatre.
Improv 101 students are required to acquire the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual by class #2. The Manual can be purchased for non-refundable $25 at UCB Theatre, UCB Training Center NY, UCBstore.com or Amazon.com.
Note: Meets Labor Day weekend. Does not meet September 7. Also meets October 12, a holiday weekend. Check calendar carefully before enrolling.
Caroline Fiona Martin, teacher
CAROLINE MARTIN is an improviser, writer, and lover of cheese. She performs improv with the Curfew on Saturday nights at UCBTNY. She's a 2016 Comedy Central Comic to Watch for sketch. Previously she performed improv on Harold Night and LLoyd Night at UCBTNY. She performed and wrote characters on "Characters Welcome" and was an actor on the UCBTNY sketch team Monaco on Maude Night. She was the winner of the 2014 NBC & UCB Diversity Scholarship Showcase and performed on The Peoples Improv Theater house teams Divo and Timber. Caroline teaches improv comedy at UCB and received a B.A. in Ethnic Studies from Brown University.Login to Register (5 spots left)
