Improv 201: Game of the Scene
|Prerequisites||Completion of Improv 101 within previous two years|
|Start Date||Jan 6, 2020, 11:30am|
|Class Size||16 students|
|Sessions||8 sessions, 3 hours each|
|Performance||Jan 18, 2020, 3:00pm|
Students will be taught: 1) identifying "games", 2) heightening - finding new ways to make your scenes get funnier from start to finish, 3) realizing how patterns support the "game," 4) second beats (returning to scenes later in a piece).
This course meets for 8 sessions that are each 3 hours long.
Students will take part in a class performance, generally held at the UCB Theatre.
Students are required to see at least 2 improvised shows at the UCB Theater before the end of the course.
Admission to 301 after the completion of this course is not guaranteed. Students will be judged on their application of concepts that they have learned in Improv 101 & 201. The Training Center will send placement notification to students within 10 days of the Improv 201 graduation performance. Students may not enroll in Improv 301 before receiving this notification.
Do not sign up for this because it is the only class you see online at present, sign up for it if it is the only course that fits your schedule.
This two-week-long intensive is intended for students who can only be in the NYC area for a limited time. We will have more once-a-week courses starting before January.
Should I take an intensive?
Intensive courses meet in a condensed period of time compared to our standard eight-week courses. They are recommended mostly for students who do not live in the NYC area, have extensive previous improv experience, or unique schedules that make clearing one or two weeks easier than clearing the same time slot for eight weeks. If you can take a regular four or eight week course, we recommend you do that. It's cheaper, and you'll have more chances to see free improv shows and practice between classes.
Please note, due to the nature of the intensive class, make-ups are much harder to schedule.
PLEASE CHECK SCHEDULE CAREFULLY.
READ SHOW REQUIREMENT CAREFULLY! DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS CLASS IF YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO SEE TWO SHOWS BEFORE THE GRADUATION PERFORMANCE.
Note: Performance is weekend of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
